When is the right time to replace your boiler?

Most gas boilers last between ten and fifteen years, depending on how hard they have worked and how well they have been looked after.

Age matters less than behaviour. The signs worth watching:

  • Your home takes longer to warm up than it used to
  • Hot water has become unreliable
  • The pressure keeps dropping
  • You have called an engineer more than once in a year

It is also worth checking parts are still available. Once a model is discontinued, a simple repair can turn slow and expensive.

Why replace your boiler?

A newer boiler heats your home faster and more evenly, and uses less gas doing it.

It is also the cheapest moment to improve the rest of the system. A magnetic filter protects against sludge, thermostatic valves let you heat rooms individually, and a modern control gives you proper timing. Doing all that while the system is drained costs far less than coming back later.

Some models carry a manufacturer warranty of up to twelve years, so an unexpected fault stops being an unexpected bill.

How much does it cost to replace a boiler?

It depends on the boiler, the output you need, the brand, and how much work the fit involves. Moving the boiler to another wall, converting to a combi or replacing old pipework all add to it.

Our fixed prices start from £1,790 including installation and VAT. Fixed means fixed, it will not creep up once work begins.

Paying in one go is not practical for everyone. Finance is available through Ideal4Finance, subject to status. See boiler finance for the detail and a representative example.

How the quote actually works

The questionnaire gives you a fixed price in about a minute, based on what you tell us about your home.

Before we fit anything, an engineer visits to survey the property and confirm it all matches. That visit is free and there is no obligation. We send the engineer who would do the work, not a salesperson.

Spread the cost

Got your price? You can pay monthly instead

A boiler is a big single payment, and it rarely comes at a good time. Finance is available through Ideal4Finance so you can spread it over a term that suits you. Check example monthly repayments first, or apply for a decision when you are ready.

How to choose the right boiler

Three main types. The right one depends on your home, your water pressure and how many people need hot water at once.

Combi boiler

Heats water on demand from the mains, so no cylinder and no loft tank. Ideal for smaller homes and flats with one bathroom. Less suited to two showers running at once.

Price up a combi

System boiler

Works with a hot water cylinder, so several taps and showers can run together without the pressure dropping. A good fit for larger homes with more than one bathroom.

Price up a system boiler

Regular boiler

The traditional setup with a cylinder and a loft tank. Usually the sensible choice replacing like for like in an older home, or where mains pressure will not support a combi.
