What the visit covers, and what we do about next winter
The diagnostic is the whole system rather than the fault code. Gas inlet pressure under load, the flue checked for blockage and for wind exposure, every safety device tested, and the boiler run through heating and hot water before anyone names a cause.
On a frozen condensate call we do the obvious thing and get your heating back on. Then we tell you what it would take to stop it happening again, because thawing a pipe and driving away is a repeat visit with extra steps.

The condensate pipe, every single year
Every modern boiler drains acidic condensate, and where that pipe runs outside it freezes. Up here it freezes first, hardest and for longest. The boiler detects the blockage and shuts down showing a lockout, and people reasonably assume it has died. It has not. Thawing it restores heating within the hour.
What matters is what happens next winter. Where the layout allows we reroute the condensate to an internal waste, which removes the risk entirely. Where it genuinely has to stay outside it goes in the correct diameter with proper insulation, which is a different thing from the thin uninsulated overflow pipe a lot of older installs used. Wind on the flue
Exposure cuts both ways. Persistent wind across a flue terminal disturbs the air pressure the boiler depends on, producing a boiler that lights and then locks out moments later. It is not an electrical fault and it is not the board, though both get replaced by people who have not checked the terminal.
Solid wall colliery housing
Annfield Plain, Craghead, South Moor, Tanfield Lea and Dipton carry a lot of older solid wall stock with no cavity to insulate. Those houses lose heat faster than a modern equivalent, and people assume a bigger boiler is the answer. It rarely is. A room that never warms up is usually an undersized radiator for the heat loss of that room, not an undersized boiler for the house. We will tell you that even when it is not the thing we are quoting for.
Properties off the mains gas supply
A number of outlying properties around the DH9 villages are not on mains gas and run on LPG or oil. If that is you, say so when you enquire rather than at the survey, because it changes both the appliance and the engineer, and we would rather confirm what we can do than quote a price that turns out not to apply.
