Mains gas and LPG, which matters in County Durham

County Durham has a lot of properties that are not on the mains gas network. The former colliery villages, the farms and the older rural stock out towards Weardale often run on LPG, oil or electric, and finding an engineer registered for LPG is genuinely difficult.

We are registered for both. That means we can service, repair and certificate an LPG boiler, fire or cooker in a village where most firms will tell you they cannot help, as well as doing everything you would expect on a mains gas property in the city.

Everything else is the same as anywhere else we work: Gas Safe registered, fixed prices agreed before we start, and an honest answer about whether something is worth repairing.

Gas work we do most often across Durham

LPG boilers, fires and certificates

Servicing, repair, safety certificates and system health checks on LPG appliances. If you have been struggling to find anyone registered for LPG in your village, this is the reason to ring us.

Student lets and HMO certificates

Durham has a large rented sector around the city. We handle annual CP12 certificates across portfolios, arrange access with tenants directly, and can schedule several properties into one visit.

Older stone properties

Solid wall terraces near the centre behave differently to a modern estate. Heat loss is higher, radiators are often undersized for the room, and boiler sizing done on bedroom count alone tends to be wrong. We size on the actual property.

Frozen condensate and rural cold snaps

Exposed rural plots lose their condensate pipe to ice before anywhere else. It locks the boiler out and looks like a breakdown. Often it is a ten minute fix and we will talk you through it on the phone before charging you for a visit.

Boiler installation, repair and servicing

Fixed price diagnosis on repairs, fixed price quotes on installs, and no premium for the outlying villages.

Frequently asked questions

The ones we get asked most.

Do you work on LPG in County Durham? +
Yes. We are registered for LPG as well as mains gas, which is unusual locally. We service, repair and certificate LPG boilers, fires and cookers on off grid properties across the county.
Do you cover the villages as well as Durham City? +
Yes, and with no premium for outlying areas. We regularly work in Bowburn, Brandon, Ushaw Moor, Esh Winning, Sacriston and Witton Gilbert among others.
Can you do gas safety certificates for a student let? +
Yes. We handle annual CP12 certificates across rental portfolios, arrange access with the tenants ourselves, email the certificate the same day and remind you before it expires.
My boiler locked out in the cold, is it broken? +
Often not. On exposed rural plots a frozen condensate pipe is the most common winter cause and it locks the boiler out to protect itself. Ring us and describe the fault code and we will tell you whether it is something you can clear yourself.
How do I check you are Gas Safe registered? +
Ask to see the card and check the number at gassaferegister.co.uk. The card also shows which appliance types the engineer is qualified for. Every engineer carries theirs and will show it before starting.
What should I do if I smell gas? +
Leave the property immediately, do not touch any electrical switches, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. On LPG, turn off the cylinder or tank valve if it is safe to reach. Call us once the supply is made safe.
