Baxi E133 Error Code: Why Your Boiler Will Not Ignite
E133 is the most common fault code on Baxi boilers. It means ignition lockout. The boiler has tried to ignite several times and failed, so it has locked out as a safety precaution.
What to check first
Before calling an engineer, try these quick checks:
1. Check the condensate pipe
If it is cold outside, the condensate pipe may be frozen. Find the white plastic pipe running from your boiler to the outside drain and pour warm water over it. Once thawed, reset the boiler.
2. Check the gas supply
Try your gas hob or another gas appliance. If nothing works, your gas supply may be off. Check the gas meter.
3. Check the pressure
Look at the pressure gauge. If it is below 1 bar, the boiler may not fire. Repressurise to 1.2 bar using the filling loop.
How to reset a Baxi boiler
Press the reset button on the front panel (it is usually clearly labelled). Hold for 3 to 5 seconds and release. The boiler will attempt to restart. If it fires and stays running, monitor it. If E133 comes back, you need an engineer.
If the reset does not work
The fault is likely one of these:
- Faulty ignition electrode — the spark plug that lights the gas. Wears out over time
- Gas valve issue — the valve that controls gas flow to the burner
- PCB fault — the electronic control board that manages the ignition sequence
- Blocked burner — debris on the burner can prevent clean ignition
All of these are common Baxi repairs that any Gas Safe engineer can handle.
