Ideal fault codes, explained properly
Logic and Vogue boilers use short F and L codes. Here is what each means, which are cheap fixes, and which ones mean you should stop pressing reset.

Reading an Ideal fault code
Ideal uses short codes, an F or L followed by a digit or two. Logic, Logic Plus, Logic Max and Vogue share most of the set, so the same code generally means the same thing across the range.
Two are worth understanding properly. L2 is an ignition lockout, and on Logic boilers it is very often what you end up with after a fault has been reset repeatedly instead of diagnosed. L1 looks like a sensor code but can equally be a circulation problem, so replacing the thermistor without checking whether water is actually moving is a common and pointless repair.
The reset rule, and why it matters
Almost every fault code can be cleared with the reset button, and almost everyone presses it more than once. That is the single most expensive habit in domestic heating.
A lockout is the boiler protecting itself. Resetting it tells the appliance to try again. Once is reasonable, because genuine one off glitches do happen. Repeatedly resetting a boiler that is locking out on ignition means it is pumping gas into the combustion chamber and failing to light it, over and over. Repeatedly resetting an overheat lockout means asking it to fire again into a system that cannot carry the heat away. Both do real damage, and both turn a known price repair into a bigger one.
Reset once. If it locks out again, stop and get it looked at.
Ideal codes in detail
F1, low water pressure
Pressure in the sealed system has dropped below the safe running level.
Why it happens: A leak, recently bled radiators, a passing pressure relief valve, or a failed expansion vessel. On Logic models a faulty pressure sensor can also produce it.
What you can do: Repressurise to 1.0 to 1.5 bar and note how long it holds.
What an engineer does: Checks the outside discharge pipe, tests the vessel charge and pressure tests the system to separate a genuine leak from a vessel that has lost its charge.
F2, flame failure
The boiler cannot establish or hold a flame.
Why it happens: No gas reaching the appliance, a frozen condensate pipe, a worn ignition electrode, or a gas valve fault.
What you can do: Check the gas is on and other appliances work. Thaw an external condensate pipe with warm water. Reset once.
What an engineer does: Tests working gas pressure under load, checks the electrode and lead and verifies the valve operation before condemning parts.
L2, ignition lockout
The boiler has given up after repeated failed ignition attempts and locked itself out.
Why it happens: The same family of causes as F2, and on Logic models L2 is very often what you see after a boiler has been reset repeatedly rather than diagnosed.
What you can do: Reset once. If L2 returns, stop, because repeated lockouts are a symptom of an underlying fault that is getting worse.
What an engineer does: Reads the fault history, tests gas pressure and combustion, and checks whether previous resets have caused secondary damage.
FD, fan fault
The fan is not running at the speed the control board expects.
Why it happens: A worn fan motor, loose wiring or connector, or a board fault. A restricted flue terminal makes it worse.
What you can do: Nothing safely.
What an engineer does: Checks fan speed and current, inspects the flue route and terminal, and confirms fan against board before replacing.
F9, return thermistor fault
The sensor measuring water returning to the boiler is reading incorrectly.
Why it happens: A failed thermistor, a corroded connector, or a poor connection. These are inexpensive parts and a common failure.
What you can do: Nothing. It needs a meter.
What an engineer does: Measures sensor resistance against the manufacturer curve at a known temperature, which condemns the part or points at wiring instead.
L1, flow thermistor or circulation fault
The flow sensor is reading incorrectly, or the boiler is not seeing the temperature rise it expects when it fires.
Why it happens: A failed NTC sensor or corroded connections, but also genuinely poor circulation from a pump fault or sludge. L1 is not purely a sensor code and treating it as one leads to the wrong repair.
What you can do: Check the pressure and whether radiators heat at all.
What an engineer does: Checks circulation before the sensor, because replacing a thermistor on a system that is not circulating fixes nothing.
LC, board communication fault
The control board is not communicating properly with the rest of the appliance.
Why it happens: A failed board, a wiring fault, or a power supply problem. Damp reaching the board is a common underlying cause on poorly sited installations.
What you can do: Nothing.
What an engineer does: Checks the supply and wiring first, because a board is one of the most expensive parts on the boiler and is too often replaced when the fault was upstream of it.

Thermistors are among the cheapest parts we fit. Fans are mid range. A control board is the expensive one, which is exactly why LC gets a proper diagnosis first rather than a board fitted on suspicion. Our published prices are on the boiler repair cost page.
Ideal warranties run up to 10 years on Logic and Vogue when fitted and registered by an accredited installer. As with every manufacturer, missing the annual service is what quietly invalidates it, which matters most on exactly the expensive parts you would want to claim for.
