Hard Water in Sunderland: Can Limescale Affect Your Boiler?

• The appliance overheats or locks out repeatedly.

Those symptoms do not prove limescale on their own. Sensors, valves, pumps and heat exchangers can produce overlapping symptoms, so persistent faults should be diagnosed rather than guessed at from a single sign.

Does a power flush remove limescale?

A power flush is primarily used to clean contamination from the central-heating circuit: the radiators and heating pipework. It is not a universal fix for a domestic-hot-water problem inside a combi boiler.

If radiators are cold at the bottom, the system water is very dark or circulation is poor, system contamination may be relevant. If the radiators heat normally but the hot-water side is failing, the fault needs diagnosing separately.

What about magnetic filters and scale protection?

A magnetic filter is designed to capture magnetic debris circulating in the heating circuit. It does not remove dissolved hardness minerals from incoming mains water.
