ECO4 Boiler Grant: Am I Eligible for a Free Boiler?
The ECO4 scheme is a government programme that can fund a free or heavily subsidised new boiler for qualifying households. If you are on certain benefits and your home has a low energy efficiency rating, you could get a brand new boiler installed at no cost to you.
What is the ECO4 scheme?
ECO stands for Energy Company Obligation. It requires large energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency improvements in UK homes. This can include boiler replacements, insulation, and heating upgrades. ECO4 is the latest version of the scheme and runs until March 2026.
Who is eligible?
You may qualify if you meet both of these criteria:
1. You receive one of these benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
- Income Support
- Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income related Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit (with income below the threshold)
- Working Tax Credit (with income below the threshold)
- Housing Benefit
2. Your home has a low energy efficiency rating (EPC rating of D, E, F, or G). Most older homes in the North East fall into these categories.
What do you get?
If eligible, the scheme can cover the full cost of a new boiler installation, including:
- The boiler itself
- Installation labour
- Any necessary upgrades (new flue, pipework modifications)
- System flush
- Warranty registration
How to apply
You do not apply directly to the government. An ECO4 accredited installer (like us) handles the application process on your behalf. We check your eligibility, complete the paperwork, and arrange the installation. There is no cost to find out whether you qualify.
