Why do LPG fires need annual servicing?

LPG fires are the appliance people most often forget to service. The boiler gets booked in, while the freestanding or wall mounted fire gets treated as furniture. That matters, because LPG fires are the most likely appliance to produce carbon monoxide if something goes wrong, since many are flueless or open fronted and let combustion gases mix with the room air rather than venting outside.

The two faults we see most are dust in the burner, which causes incomplete combustion and CO, and worn oxygen depletion sensors that no longer shut the fire off when room oxygen drops too low. An annual service catches both.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should an LPG fire be serviced? +
Every 12 months at minimum. If used heavily through winter or in a dusty environment, every 6 months is sensible. Manufacturer schedules vary. Check your manual.
Are flueless LPG fires safe? +
When properly maintained, yes. They rely on an oxygen depletion sensor (ODS) that shuts the fire off if room oxygen drops below 17%. The ODS has a finite life and must be tested annually and replaced when degraded. Skipping service makes a flueless fire genuinely dangerous.
My old fire wonders if I should replace it? +
If your fire is over 15 years old, parts are scarce, and it is showing its age, replacement is often the better answer. We will give you an honest opinion at the service visit, not a sales pitch.
Do you service all LPG fire brands? +
Yes, including Calor, Valor, Flavel, Be Modern, Gazco and the popular portable brands like Calor Stuga and Provence.
